Curly Snake

July 16th, 2010 IngridBarlow 7 comments

Meet Curly.  He is our newest friend from Itty Bitty Toys.

He is incredibly cute!  Snakes are one critter that I have a high aversion to.  Most of the time I try to be pretty macho about things, but not so with snakes.  I think it all started when my 5th grade teacher had us watch as he fed the class snake a mouse.  I just can’t stop seeing that big eared darling of a mouse wander the cage innocently.  I’m sure you know the ending of that story.  I almost tear up just thinking about it.  But Curly doesn’t eat mice.  In fact, he eats mosquitoes.  He is pure sweetness through and through.

He comes from Itty Bitty Toys by Susan B. Anderson.  (I know.  Another project from that book.  Trust me, you haven’t seen the end of it either.  My needles are flying!)

While Elias and I were knitting him last night, I started thinking that I might try and only give Elias homemade gifts.  I think that would be very cool.  And it would teach him something about the meaning of gifts.

Love at first sight.

I can’t get over this little guy!  I made him up a few nights ago and he makes me smile every time I look at him.

This fabulous pattern is from Susan B. Anderson and is FREE on her blog.  When I bought the yarn to make this guy, I also picked up her newest book, Itty Bitty Toys.  There are so many things in there that I want to make!!  I think many Christmas gifts may come from this book.

But wait, I haven’t even told you the best part yet.  Prepare to be amazed.

Love it!!  Duck to Bunny!  I think this is so fabulous!  2 friends in one.

Can you imagine the stories and places Elias and I will go with these guys?  I’ve already started adventures in my head to share about Mr. Pixler’s garden and his fat cat Chaz.  Oh, boy Bunny, better stop nibbling those carrots, Chaz is on the prowl and he’s headed your way!  Maybe they will take a trip to the city…but I think they will find the country more to their liking.

Remember, this is a FREE pattern and not in Susan’s book mentioned above.  However, she does have 5 other reversible toys in the book.  If you can knit and purl you can make Duck to Bunny.  If you don’t know how, you should learn!

Add it to the list…

Sometimes I get in these crazy knitting moods.  It struck again late last night!  Check out Susan B. Anderson!!  Here are a few must do projects.

This is a little bunny that turns inside out and becomes a duck.  How great is that?!  Free pattern here!

How about Ribbit?  Free pattern here.

And I love this braided scarf.  Another free pattern!  Such a cool twist!  Is it too early to start making Christmas gifts??  Susan even has a series of great videos on this project.

Knitting Day

June 22nd, 2010 IngridBarlow No comments

Did you know Saturday was National Knit in Public day?  I must have known it in my inner knitting being, because I made my way to the local yarn shop on Saturday without even knowing that.  The place was wonderfully busy.  People knitting on the front porch, people knitting in the shop.  I took a few pics of the yarn.  Oh, how inspiring and scrumptious looking it all was.

I was shocked to see Amy Butler has a line of yarn.  I went home and told Tony and he said “well why wouldn’t she?”

So what was the result of this lovely trip to the yarn shop?  I went home and cast on a sock.  It is the perfect project to throw in my bag for when I’m on the go.  Now I have quite the dilemma though–do I read a book or knit a sock?  What a conundrum.

I got a wonderful package in the mail today!!  A friend of mine named Ruby has her own company called “Ella Mae Knits” and she sent me two pieces of beautiful hand created items.  000_3073

000_3074Love this baby sweater made out of organic cotton!  I like the different twist on the front–3 buttons all near the top.  Beautiful stitch pattern.  I can just see his little tummy wrapped in this!

000_3075Here’s a pair of precious baby booties.  I am going to have him in them every day that they fit.

Ruby does custom orders, so if you need the perfect gift look no further.  You can reach her at br_bodeker@hotmail.com.  “Delightful, Handknit Creations”

Oh, and Ruby has chickens at her house in the country…I am soooo jealous!
