Movie Monday Vacation!

Elias at 10 months

Hey guys, so sorry that I have been a bad blogger recently! Life has been busy with lefse making, advent festivals, choir rehersals and all the lovely holiday goodness. I am just too swamped to try and do a good Movie Monday so I am going to take a few weeks off and try to hit the ground running in the New Year…  or maybe I will try something new??? We will just have to see!

I also have a big project that I have been working on over the past few weeks that I am very excited to share with you all sometime soon.  Hopefully you can bear with me during this busy time and in the mean time here is a great little picture of my little Elias. He is about 10 months old and just full of action! He is leaning on the fun bench I painted for him. Have a great week!

A Getaway.

It’s been quiet around here.  This wee family snuck off and had a vacation in northern MN.  It was wonderful.  Grandpa and Grandma hosted and gave us an extra hand in watching a very active 8 month old.  Tony and I also got away one evening to celebrate our 7th wedding anniversary.  It’s been wedded bliss every day…well not every day, but almost.  :)

We had wonderful fall weather.  I loved kayaking the beautiful lake.

Elias’ first boat ride.  The little outdoors man.

Tony and Grandpa fished, fished, and fished some more.

And we spent an afternoon at Itasca State Park–headwaters of the mighty Mississippi.

Here is the full shot of Anything Goes.  It is the throw size, 66″x72″, which makes it hard to fit into a smaller picture.  I think I like the close up shots better, so you can see all the little holly leaves and polka dots but all well.  Did I say it is a really cute sample?!  I can’t wait to get it quilted up and washed.  Oh, wintery goodness!  The pattern is very easy and would make incredible handmade Christmas gifts…which are the best!  If you would like a pattern you can pick one up at your local quilt shop or in Quilt Patterns.

This is a project I was working on yesterday.  I put all these rows together, started laying them out and…OH NO!  One row is 2 inches short.  Total Bummer.  Time to rip some seams.

The Half

Remember, how I talked about running a 1/2 marathon 2 years ago?? Well, it never happened. A couple months ago, I got sick of saying “someday…” and decided that I better knock some things off the list sooner than later. So, 4 weeks ago I asked my seasoned marathon running sister-in-law if I could pull off a half marathon. She gave me the green light and I was off! I’m glad I only had 4 weeks to train, because if I think I had more time than that I just would have put it off.

Training, training. Actually wasn’t that bad. There were some pretty rough days, but also some feel good days. It is always hard work for me though. No “easy” runs around here.

Race day was on Sunday.

Here I am at mile 8.  Feeling pretty tired, but so happy to see my family on the sidelines.

Almost to the finish line!  I am REALLY ready to be done.

And it’s over!  Yay!  I met my goal of finishing under 2 1/2 hours and of jogging the entire way.  So the exact stats:  11.01 pace, 2 hrs. 24 minutes to finish.  Not the speediest rabbit, but I’m happy with it.

Escape.

We spent a glorious few days up at my parents house last week in MN.

I picked some blueberries for breakfast.  Talk about eating fresh!  Still warm from the sun.

Grandma watched Elias while Tony and I went on a canoe ride.  It was a beautiful escape for me.  We saw this little guy coming to the water for a drink.  Can you tell who he is?  Here’s a hint:  he is covered with little white spots (for now)  and mama is not far away.

I was Tony’s captain as he did a little of this.  I would totally have a scum frog of my own in the water, but I am too cheap to buy a license when I only get around to it a couple times a year.  I probably should anyways just to support the sport, lake conservation,  and the DNR.

After our fishing was complete, we paddled out to the middle of the lake and jumped in.  clothes and all.  I had to make sure if ever we dumped ourselves we would be able to get back in the canoe.  It really wasn’t very hard.  It’s good practice for my dream trip to the Boundary Waters.

A good time was had by all!
