Curly Snake

Meet Curly.  He is our newest friend from Itty Bitty Toys.

He is incredibly cute!  Snakes are one critter that I have a high aversion to.  Most of the time I try to be pretty macho about things, but not so with snakes.  I think it all started when my 5th grade teacher had us watch as he fed the class snake a mouse.  I just can’t stop seeing that big eared darling of a mouse wander the cage innocently.  I’m sure you know the ending of that story.  I almost tear up just thinking about it.  But Curly doesn’t eat mice.  In fact, he eats mosquitoes.  He is pure sweetness through and through.

He comes from Itty Bitty Toys by Susan B. Anderson.  (I know.  Another project from that book.  Trust me, you haven’t seen the end of it either.  My needles are flying!)

While Elias and I were knitting him last night, I started thinking that I might try and only give Elias homemade gifts.  I think that would be very cool.  And it would teach him something about the meaning of gifts.

What a great idea! I think homemade christmas and birthdays are in order. When ever I’m kitting Isabelle asks if it’s for her, even if it’s a washcloth. needless to say her babies has many washcloth blankets.

Hi, I’m impressed that you can knit with him on your lap! My Greandson is 8 mo. & would be grabbing the needles right away! I enjoy your blog. If I had the internet 25 years ago when I was raising my family. I would be doing many of the same things as you.

Actually more than his hands, I was a little worried about poking his eye out with all those needles! We worked pretty good together though. Probably won’t last much longer so I have to soak it up while I can.

i love the idea of only giving handmade gifts. You’re right, it definitely is more in the spirit of what gifts should be. More giving of your time than money. I am never able to make as many gifts as I want to, but I figure every homemade gift is one less thing from the mall, right?
