Doings of the week.

I know, I am supposed to be quilting now that all my old knitting projects are finished, but…  Knitting and pregnancy just go together so well!  I can sit in the lazy-boy, kick my feet up, and be brainless with a pair of needles.  This is another project that I cast on and finished in a couple days.  It is Debbie Bliss’ Baby Leg Warmers from her book Design It, Knit It: Babies.  I used Amy Butler’sbelle organic aran” by Rowan.  I am really happy with the result–they are so soft and the perfect weight.  These will be for the new baby.  Leg warmers are probably more on the girl side, but I figure a baby can get by with it.  Plus, there is always the hope that someday a little girl will be wearing them as well.  But let’s not get ahead of ourselves.

I have been doing an itty bitty amount of quilting.  Here are some new blocks I put together.  They are not finished yet, but I had to show you something to prove that I do actually sew.

I discovered that this bird print goes perfectly with a lot of my modern prints in my stash.  Fun to mix them all up!

And here is what I do a lot of during my day.  Mommy stuff.  Elias is 14 months now and we are busy discovering new things every day.

The Creative Connection Event

This last week I was able to skip off to The Creative Connection Event in the cities for a few hours.  I was only able to get there for the keynote speakers and dinner Thursday night, but it was oh so worth it!!  It was incredible to meet so many of the talented people that are at the top of the creative industry.  As I ate my scrumptious dinner, Amy Butler and Mary Jane Butters gave motivating and inspiring speeches.  I was in my glory as I tickled my tastebuds, soaked up words of wisdom, and gazed around at people like Heather Bailey, Camille Roskelley, and Joanna Figueroa.  The gifts that were showered down upon us attendees was plentiful.  I was blessed to be there.  Watch for it next year!!  I hope to be there for more of it!  Creative girls getting together for a little warmhearted making, chatting, and dreaming!

A few handmades

My mom came to stay with us all last week and it was wonderful!  Having an extra person to soothe a fussing baby in the middle of the night made a huge difference.  Also enjoyed having a hot drink served to me in the morning and a few shopping trips.  Moms are so good at pampering!

In the baby department…I can’t believe how much they go to the bathroom!  We have gone through so many diapers already and 2 whole boxes of baby wipes in less than two weeks.  My sister-in-law gave me a recipe for homemade baby wipes and they are working fabulously!  Below is the recipe.

-Cut a roll of paper towels in half.  (I use the rolls that have half sheet cuts)

-Use an 8 cup round container with lid

-Mix 2 cups water, 3 Tbsp baby oil, and 2 Tbsp baby wash in the container

-Put your cut roll of towels in the bowl and then immediately lift out and put the dry end in.

-Pull out the brown tubing from the middle

-Pull towels from the center

I also made an Amy Butler coin purse.  It will be nice to throw on my wrist when I have to run somewhere quick.  (I have found that having a baby requires taking a few more items with you when on the go.)

My kind of weekend!

This weekend was spent at complete leisure!  I took full advantage–a couple of books, two projects, and a movie later…000_2190

The first project was one that I have been meaning to get to before now but just never did.  (I am sure that is a foreign occurrence for all of you  ;]  This is an Amy Butler pattern called the Nappy Bag.  It is a diaper bag that has some great pockets and space inside.  There is a cell phone pocket on the outside.  I’m thinking this is a good thing for such a large bag…desperate scrambling for an ill timed phone call is not my idea of a good time.  I also have a “Butt Rug” tucked inside.  This is a wonderfully organic cotton matt for changing time.

This is “Peanut” a wee elephant.  This pattern is out of the book Last Minute Patchwork.  I think it is rather cute, Tony thinks it is somewhat “evil genius” looking.  whatever.

I was at a friend’s house this afternoon and her little boy was holding it by the tail.  So cute!  It withstood the true test of little people love.

Hope you are all finding time to do what you love!
