Frau Kota

Elias has been keeping me a bit busier this past week, so I haven’t had much time being creative. I caught a few moments to tidy things up in the studio today. Here’s some new fabric that needs a fun pattern. I was really drawn to the fresh color combos and the organic/free feel of it.

Our dog Dakota, whom I know call Frau Kota in honor of my sister-in-laws family…(well actually it might not be an honor, but I’ve started calling her Frau and it has stuck) is doing very well with baby Elias. Pre-baby she would beg to go in one of the back bedrooms each night to nap, now she will not leave the living room since that is where Elias is. How cute! Frau Kota gets a lick in when she can, but other than that she really minds her “p’s and q’s.”

Fabric Conundrum

So much beautiful fabric and I’m just not sure what to make with it. I have to have the perfect project to use it in. Oh, the pressure!

Sweet Sunday

After a refreshing worship time this morning, I came home to have a little fun with some fabric I bought a month ago for a new quilt pattern! Oh yes, very exciting…can’t tell you much, but here is a sneak peek of the fabric that will go into it.

Then after a little play time, I had a very hot and sticky session with the dishes. As I was doing them, my dear husband came up to me and said, “open up your box of sunshine.” I gave him the sweaty evil eye–he knows washing dishes is my favorite way to spend a hot summer afternoon. Actually on the bright side, he did offer to do round 2 of dirty dishes tomorrow. Yes, we really do have that many dirty dishes at once. Trust me, they pile up fast when you don’t eat out much and you like to experiment in the kitchen.

This evening I spent some time on the deck with the dog watching fireflies. I caught some in a jar for old time’s sake. Dakota, the dog, was not a very good helper. She was not sure what I was doing but she knew it was exciting, so she tucked her butt under and went flying around the yard like a maniac. She busted a couple close catches for me. Crazy dog.

I put clean sheets on the beds tonight. Nothing like crawling into a fresh and tightly made bed for the night. Since I line dry my sheets, I use a linen powder to give them a lightly wonderful scent. Very fun to use and you will feel oh so sweetly feminine when you sprinkle it about. Sleep tight to you and yours!!!

I think this project is so cool! My walls needed some color down in my “special” room, and so instead of painting I took fabric and liquid starch and made my own wall art. It is so easy to do! Take some fabric and cut out the shapes you would like to apply. Use some double stick tape to position your shapes on the wall to get the exact placement you want. For the liquid starch, you will need to make up a little concoction. Whisk together 1/4 cup of cold water and 1/8 cup of corn starch. Add 2 cups boiling water to this and whisk some more. Let it cool a bit so it is easy to work with. One at a time, take your pieces of fabric and paint the back side of the fabric with the liquid starch. Make sure to really soak it good–I put my pieces of fabric in a jelly roll pan to help contain the mess. Place your fabric on the wall and then brush the front side of the fabric with a little more liquid starch. Let it dry! I have heard, though not tested, that when you want to remove the fabric, you can just peel it off…no damage done! Can you imagine the things you could create!?

Here’s another little project I got involved with last night. My sister-in-law gave us this white rug, her grandparents had made, for a wedding gift. I loved it but you can imagine what a white rug looked like after 5 years. Tony thought there was no hope for it, but I just couldn’t part with it. With the help of a package of Rit dye and my washing machine we gave the rug some new life with a smidge of extra spunk.
