New fabric=new pattern

March 1st, 2010 ingridbarlow.com 2 comments

I got my hands on some of Heather Bailey’s new fabric–”Nicey Jane.”  Love it!  After a few days of pondering and dreaming, I came up with a pattern I think fits well with the fabric.  Between Tony and a very sensitive baby monitor I was able to get some sewing time in today.  New fabric and new patterns–so much fun for me!

And how much fun are fresh cookies with a mug of milk?!  Someday Elias will enjoy warm cookies when he gets home from school…because that is just the way it is supposed to be right?

Girls Day

October 5th, 2009 ingridbarlow.com 2 comments

The girls abandoned their husbands and children and came over to my house for a little make and take project.000_2869 Kelli and Trista made Heather Bailey booties (I posted mine here) and Kara put together a baby blanket for her 6 week old Sophie.  It was a relaxing afternoon of domestic diva skills.  We didn’t get everything done that we planned so that just means we will have to plan another date to do more. I am so bummed about that!

Yes girls, we make our men proud!

Bitty Booties!

September 16th, 2009 ingridbarlow.com 1 comment

000_2784Bitty Booties are done!  They are so very cute and easy to make.  I think they probably took me a max of 1 hour from start to finish.  You can find the pattern at Heather Bailey under Bitty Booties.

I had a fun supper for Tony tonight.  I made his grandma’s c000_2778orn fritters and loaded baked potato soup!  Wow, was it scrumptious!!

Here’s the fritter recipe from Grandma Max.

-mix 2 eggs, 3/4 c milk, 1 tbsp oil

-sift together 1 3/4 c flour, 1 tbsp sugar, 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder, 1/2 tsp. salt

-combine wet and dry ingredients and add one 12 oz can of whole kernal corn (I used some of my freezer corn…eye balled the amount)

Heat oil in a fry daddy, or whatever you have, and drop batter by the spoonful when the oil is good and hot.

Goes down really good with butter, syrup, or HONEY!

The soup recipe came from a magazine I just discovered called Cook’s Country.

(I have not mastered beautiful pictures of food yet, but you get the point.)

Fabric Conundrum

000_2773So much beautiful fabric and I’m just not sure what to make with it.  I have to have the perfect project to use it in.  Oh, the pressure!

Check out this cute tablerunner.  I have some of this fabric and I love what Kristina did with it.

If you need a little inspiration check out Needle Little Inspiration

I’m thinking I might need to make a pair of these Bitty Booties by Heather Bailey soon!

modern prints

000_2546This is a quilt I just finished up on Sunday.  The fabric is Aviary by Joel Dewberry.  It’s an older line, but I wasn’t able to track down any of the fabric until recently.  I made up the pattern using a plain block alternating with what I call a “chaser” block.  You can tell how I quilted it by looking at the close up.  Tony really liked the look–thought it was very modern looking.

One of my favorite parts of the whole quilting proce000_2547ss is pulling out the finished quilt from the dryer.  I wait to wash my fabric when I am completely done with a quilt, because it shrinks up so beautifully giving it a very cozy/aged look.  (WARNING:  This is only a good idea if you buy quality fabric!!!!)

Here is quilt number 2 from Sunday.  I showed this quilt to you before but now it is complete.  It’s very different–my thinking with the pattern is to show how you can make a quilt very simple and show off some of the wonderful large scale prints.  This fabric is from Heather Bailey.  I added a ruffle for a touch of whimsy.  Tony is not sure how he feels about the ruffle…

I have discovered that I am a production quilter instead of a process quilter.  I quilt for the finished product, not so much for the process of doing it.  I love the beginning and the end–picking out fabric and pulling the quilt out of the dryer!
