Movie Monday–Camp Stools

IMG_1729

Welcome to Movie Monday!  I can’t believe I finally finished this movie!  Getting it done all between sandpaper, wet paint, dogs, babies crying, diapers…that’s success in the life of a homemaker!  Today I show you how I updated some old camp stools.  It was a process, but I’m very happy with the results.  They are totally cute and I can see them making many pit stops in various rooms–living room, porch, Elias’ room–in between their ventures around the campfire.

*A closer view of the fabrics I picked.  These aren’t ticking, but they are still a bit sturdier material.

Movie Monday–Quilt+Quirks

Happy Movie Monday to you all!  I am short and sweet this week, showing you a quilt I just pulled out of the dryer today!  (I wash my fabric for the first time after I quilt it so I get a lot of crinkly goodness.  Pulling it out of the dryer is the best!)  I hope I get your brain spinning on some fun things to add to your next sewing project.  All my best to you this week!

I mention Denyse Schmidt’s fabric line, Hope Valley.  Here’s a link to her website, or you can check it out in my blogroll.

Movie Monday–Birthday Bunting!

I love traditions and birthdays are a great time for them. In this video I show you how to make birthday bunting so that you will always have something to hang when a birthday rolls around in your house. It doesn’t matter who’s birthday it is–if you are celebrating a birthday you get birthday bunting–little ones, big ones, old ones, young ones. You can hang it in the living room, over the front door, or a bedroom door. How fun to hang it low on the door frame of little ones so that it is more at their level. Plus they will love the fact that taller people have to duck to get into their room. Birthday bunting=birthday fun! Start some traditions!

*I must apologize for the hair.  Honestly, I think it looks good and then I see it on the video and it once again looks like the wind in South Dakota grabbed that piece on top and played a funny joke.  Oh boy.  Hair is just not my thing.

Movie Monday–Aebleskivers!

IMG_1520

In this Movie Monday I demonstrate for you how to make a traditional Scandinavian treat–Aebleskivers.  Aebleskivers are basically a round pancake that you can eat for breakfast with butter, sugar, jam, syrup…whatever you put on pancakes.  Apple slices are also put in them for filling–hence, Aebleskiver.

I am no professional at making these as you will see in the Movie, but it is kind of fun to see the cooking mishaps and adventures of someone else.  I hope I bring a little smile to you today.

(The music in the video is in honor of my grandpa, Al Reesnes.  He is an incredible piano player and as a little girl I would dance with my cousins all over the living room to very similar music.  His fingers make the keys come alive and I love it!)

If you are further interested in Aebleskivers and want a more professional video demo of them, check out www.auntelse.com.

Here is a link to the store that we bought our pan from.  Holsen Hus.

Here is the very initial attempt at Aebleskivers in a muffin pan.  (There is a reason we bought the real Aebleskiver pan.)

But they still tasted great!  Check out my favorite butter dish.  Smor=butter in Norwegian.

Movie Monday–Blanket Stitch

Thanks for joining me again for another Movie Monday!  With fall coming quickly, I thought it would be a great time to show you all how to do the blanket stitch.  The blanket stitch is a great basic stitch that a lot of different projects call for.  I find that I do a lot of the stitch on wool projects.  I also use it on a lot of things that have a raw edge because it has a nice finishing quality.  Enjoy!
